Domestic Violence is a very serious crime that can affect all aspects of your life for years to come. This is especially true if assault or battery is coupled with domestic violence. See RCW 10.99.020 for crimes which are included in DV (when committed by one family or household member against another). DV is a serious charge and often is accompanied by a restraining or no-contact order. See RCW 10.99.050. Importantly, the DV charge can (not to mention DV conviction) can tremendously affect one's employment. For more information on DV, see Chapter RCW 10.99.
When many people think of DV, they tend to think of husband/wife or boyfriend/girlfriend but DV has much broader application as it also includes a preexisting relationship, family relationship or roommates or even violating a prior restraining order (see RCW 10.99.020).
